Business Model & Free Access Offer

Note: We only ask that you fully read this article before taking our free-access offer.

Hey! I’m Yann, also known as SuccuDev.

I’m the owner and creator of Midnight Machinations, a group composed of a handful of people making niche & neat stuff.

This article is about two things:

  • Our business model and why we ask for your support.
  • What we’d like to offer to those who cannot afford to support us.

The reality is that we’re a tiny, bedroom operation level organization.
We make stuff together and individually, some of our associates you’ll find on this website are simply cool people we found and wanted to help promote.
We don’t want this to become corporate and boring, but most importantly we want to be truthful, honest and transparent.

Some of our main goals include:

  • We want to secure a future where we don’t need to worry about the financial success of every project.
Creativity is often repressed by the needs of reality – while that will forever be the case, growing our company means we’re far more secure in taking risks, investing, and creating unusual projects.
  • Legitimize, stabilize and securize the income of everyone involved with our company. We live in a world of vast financial insecurity, and our industry in particular is especially volatile – between platform bans, payment processor bans, law changes and the general taboo surrounding our primary money-maker, we want to create something big enough to be immune to these frequent potential setbacks. Simultaneously, a bigger organization backing individual creators with stable incomes is the only way to legitimize them in the eyes of financial institutions etc.
  • Grow our operation to support more unique marginalized creators and artists.
We believe that the more niche artists are able to work on their crafts and make unique and unusual things, the better. Not every craft is inherently easily marketable, and we want to find ways to monetize things that may normally not be able to provide a living.
We also want to enable people to break the mold, avoid trends and make what they *want* to make – not what they have to pretend to enjoy.
  • Be supported by the few rather than the many.
While there’s unquestionably more money in mass-appeal, money isn’t everything.
We want to avoid a situation where we have to tone down our creations and only make what’s widely appealing.
We want to make niche products for those who love them, rather than making popular products for those who just like them.

Our previous successes have shown us two facts:

  • The vast majority of people are willing to pay for what they want to be made, and support the individuals behind it. If you’re one of them, and you can afford the price we ask for, we’re very thankful for your support.
  • There are many that cannot afford it, due to regional price differences or differing life realities. Between students, those living in third-world countries, and anyone facing unfortunate circumstances, we’re aware not everyone can afford to support monthly.

Our free-access offer is this:

If you feel like you can’t afford it, but can contribute in other ways (be it promotion, feedback, or otherwise), just ask us for access through our Discord.

Our past experience with this model is that the additional barrier of having to ask us means we won’t lose out financially, and this approach allows us to be financially driven without worrying about pricing out our most passionate supporters.

We only ask that you try to do at least a little something to help us out – even if it’s just mentioning us somewhere, or signal-boosting us when you see our content elsewhere.

Using this offer, you can also opt to pay once for permanent access – your circumstances, your choice.
